During this case, I worked with Gjøl Kro, a traditional Danish inn. The client expressed their wishes to
create a website that would convey their modern approach to Danish cuisine, while still maintaining the
historical atmosphere of their locale.
The goal of this project was to create a responsive website that could serve as a source of
information for potential clients, while also providing insight into the experience through its
content.
Though I was involved throughout the whole process of development, I was mostly
responsible for creating and realizing the design of the website.
After a few brainstorming sessions, my team and I have decided on creating a mobile-first design that,
first and foremost, focused on conveying the mood of the locale.
When designing the layout of the
website, I opted for a three-column grid for the desktop version, and a one-column grid for mobile. I
decided on a design that combined geometrical shapes and organic décor that would convey both the modern
values and the traditional look of the inn.
It was during the process of designing the mock-up that I realized the single-page setup wasn't ideal for
the desktop version of the website. Large elements that spanned across the width of the page were a good
solution for the smaller screens of mobile devices, but they proved to have been too overbearing for
larger displays.
After another brainstorming session, my team and I proceeded with coding the webpage with the mobile
version of the website in mind. It proved to have been the right decision, because as I continued to
work on the second iteration of the prototype for the desktop version, the rest of my team could run
tests on the mobile version in the meantime.
