For this assignment I was presented with a wicked problem: increasing the awareness of sustainability
with a focus on food waste. The aim of this project was to learn how to work with the method of Design
Thinking while developing a proof of concept as a possible solution.
In this project, I was given the responsibility of researching the data about the impact of
food production and realizing the prototype for a web app, but I have been present during all five
stages of the Design Thinking process.
Both the quantitative and qualitative research yielded in results pointing towards the importance of prevention of accumulating unnecessary produce. Following the data, I have decided to work on a mobile web app that would allow for the user to be able to learn about their product by scanning a QR code sticker, which would then lead them to a website with guidelines about storage and shelf life.
I have attended multiple brainstorming sessions with my project group, during which we worked on developing an idea for the web app and how it could be utilized in a fictional scenario of a potential user.
